  • THE MAMMALS OF SOUTHERN OREGON will be the topic of a hands-on demonstration by John Jackson from 3 to 4 p.m. at the Phoenix library, 510 W. First St. The program, for all ages, features real animal skulls and furs, animal scat (poop), and samples of tracks for the audience to handle and interact with while discovering the wide variety among our local four-legged friends. The event involves no live animals and was created under the authority of the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife. For more information, call the library at 541-535-7090.

    MEDFORD TEACHERS WILL TALK about their positions in a bargaining standoff with the Medford School District from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Fiesta Market (formerly JJ North's), 1016 N. Riverside Ave. The teachers' union and the district have not been able to settle on a contract and the possibility of a strike is drawing closer.

    HOOPSTERS WILL HIT THE HARDWOOD across the region as high school basketball heads toward midseason. Local games include the Grants Pass boys visiting South Medford at 7 p.m., while at the same time the Roseburg girls will take on the North Medford Black Tornado across town.
