World's Finest is not an easy band to define, and that seems to be the point. The Portland band — with Dan Hurley on banjo and vocals, Chris Couch on guitar and vocals, Sean McLean on saxophone, Mike Apodaca on drums and Evan Malfer on upright bass — keeps an eclectic sound that doesn't fit into a single mold.

Pulling from styles such as reggae, ska, bluegrass and more, World's Finest writes feel-good songs that appear disparate at first, but develop a cohesiveness upon further listening.

World's Finest perform at 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24 at Lounge South, 66 Pioneer St., Ashland. There is a $5 cover.
