  • The Siskiyou Violins, a Rogue Valley ensemble of young violinists, will perform twice in the Rogue Valley in coming weeks in preparation for a June performance at the Walt Disney Concert Hall during the 2014 Los Angeles International Music Festival.
The group will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, at the Craterian Theater in Medford, and at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at Southern Oregon University's Music Recital Hall in Ashland.
Both local concerts will begin with the Siskiyou Violins Juniors, who range from 7 to 10 years old. The remainder of the concert will consist of the advanced group of 25 to 30 violinists — age 8 to 18 — performing as an ensemble, and accompanied by other instruments.
Oboist Gabe Young, first-place winner of the statewide solo oboe competition for Oregon's high school students, will lead a performance of Mozart's Oboe Quartet at the Craterian concert.
Faina Podolnaya, artistic director of the Siskiyou Violins, will lead the concerts and SOU senior Tatsiana Asheichyk is the accompanist.
Tickets for the Craterian concert are available at the Craterian Theater in Medford and Paddington Station in Ashland. Tickets for the SOU concert are available at Paddington Station. The general admission prices are $15 for adults and $5 for students.
