  • HILLSBORO — Crater senior Tom Winningham's run through the 152-pound bracket at the Reser's Tournament of Champions came to an end in the finals against a powerhouse on Saturday at Liberty High.
    Top-seeded Crook County senior Tyler Berger pinned sixth-seeded Winningham in 3 minutes, 18 seconds to earn his fourth straight TOC title. Last season at 138 pounds, Berger captured both the Reser's title and Class 5A state championship for Hermiston before transferring.
    Winningham set the stage by defeating seventh-seeded David Harker of Roseburg, 4-3, in the semifinals.
    Eagle Point's fifth-seeded Levi Pomeroy fell to Century's eighth-seeded Brennan Baccay, 12-3, and Grants Pass' second-seeded Tyler Thomas lost to Hillsboro's third-seeded Joey Rodriguez, 15-2, in the 126-pound semifinals.
    In the 113-pound championship, Crook County's second-seeded Trayton Libolt earned an 8-5 decision over Grants Pass' top-seeded Casey Coulter. Coulter advanced with a 15-0 victory over Sandy's Kyle Grahn.
    In the 285-pound fifth-place match, Culver's Josua Hendrix pinned Crater's Mike Rios in 1:19.
    Crook County dominated the meet with 274 points. Roseburg (224) was second, Hillsboro (158) third, Dallas (128.5) fourth and Hermiston (112.5) fifth.
    Crater (79) was 10th, Eagle Point (76) tied for 12th and Grants Pass (63) 17th out of 24 schools.
    SUTHERLIN INVITATIONAL — At Sutherlin, North Medford earned the team championship at the 20-school Sutherlin Invitational.
    Nico Baldovino (132 pounds), Cole Hornbrook (138) and Trent Wilson (195) all won titles.
    Hornbrook and Wilson were named outstanding lower- and upper-weight wrestlers, respectively.
    Ashland's Mason Montgomery won the crown at 220 with a decision over North Medford's Skyler Black, while Grizzly teammate Cody Frost-Eisenberg picked up the 285-pound championship with a pin.
    South Medford's Austyn Miles secured the 182-pound title.
    Max Montgomery (182) and Sam Gostnell (152) placed third for Ashland.
    Sydney Norvell (132), Joanne Lemley (138) and Sadie Bailey (126) all won matches for the Grizzlies.
    Swimming
    NORTH, SOUTH SPLIT — Lauren Hunter won the 50-yard freestyle (25.87 seconds) and 100 backstroke (1:03.78) to help lift the North Medford girls to a 91-71 victory over South Medford at the Rogue Valley YMCA.
    The South boys topped North, 89-80.
    On the girls side, South's Kaylee Cooper took first place in the 200 free (2:05.63) and 100 butterfly (1:03.15) and swam legs on the winning 200 free (1:53.94) and 400 free (4:11.63) relay teams.
    On the boys side, North's Geoff Pine was victorious in the 200 free (2:12.03) and 500 free (5:52.43).

    DISTRICT 4 MEET — At Grants Pass, the Phoenix boys claimed first place in all but one event en route to the team title in the five-school District 4 meet at the Grants Pass YMCA.
    The Pirates collected 173 points, followed by Henley (50) and Hidden Valley (32).
    Phoenix's Taylor Brown won the 200-yard individual medley (2:25.34) and 500 freestyle (5:42.96), and teammate Ethan Shepherd was victorious in the 50 free (2:25.34) and 100 free (52.79).
    On the girls side, Henley won with 129 points, Phoenix was second (79) and North Valley third (38).
    Cascade Christian's Breanna Sapienza picked up wins in the 50 free (24.57) and 100 fly (56.16).
    Phoenix's Lauren Speaks broke the school record she set last year with a time of 1:12.02 in the 100 breaststroke. Her previous best was 1:12.55.

    NORTH MEDFORD 7, KLAMATH FALLS 2 — At Klamath Falls, Chase Courtney registered two goals and three assists to help North Medford improve to 6-0.
    Jeremy Wu and Josh Wu each had two goals and Jacob Fountain scored for the Black Tornado, which led 2-1 after the first period and 4-2 entering the third.
    North goalkeeper Calvinn Casaday made 19 saves.
    Skiing
    OISRA NORDIC — At Willamette Pass, Ashland's Clara Honsinger placed second out of 45 at the 4,700-meter nordic ski race, which featured a 3x1-kilometer relay.
    Honsinger finished the course in 16 minutes, 15 seconds for the Grizzlies at the Oregon Interscholastic Ski Racing Association event. South Eugene's Phacelia Cramer was first (15:27).
    Alice Oline was 11th (18:31), Paige Stephens 14th (19:04), Alison Roden 22nd (21:12) and Raven Borgilt tied for 24th (21:32) for the Ashland girls team, which took third out of four clubs with 44 points. South Eugene won with 15 points.
    Bohdan Schurr was 22nd (17:13) and Elias Lawson 30th (18:41) to led the Grizzly boys, who finished sixth out of seven squads with 87 points. Mountain View won with 17 points.
    Skiers and race workers had to hike to the upper trails at Willamette Pass to hold the race.
