  • Medford School District and its teachers will hold another bargaining session with state mediators on Feb. 5, the day before teachers have threatened to strike.
The Medford Education Association, the teachers' union, issued a release this morning saying negotiations Tuesday "failed," with the district insisting on "negotiating their way or not at all."
The Medford School Board is meeting this morning in executive session to discuss labor negotiations while protestors picket outside.
The MEA said in its release it expected the district to provide a counter offer on a financial package the union had proposed during a previous bargaining session that covered years one and two of the contract.
"The District stopped the bargaining process by insisting on adding a third year, while refusing to resolve the issues in years one and two," the release said.
A representative of the Oregon School Boards Association said late Tuesday night that new proposals were exchanged during the nine-hour bargaining session Tuesday but no new agreements had been reached. The two sides met with state mediators separately during the session.
