  • Medford Fire-Rescue will send four firefighters to the Scott Firefighter Stairclimb in Seattle, an event where firefighters race up the Columbia Center's 69 flights of stairs in full gear, gaining 788 feet of elevation.
The March 9 event is one of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's largest fundraisers, which raised more than $1.44 million last year.
Firefighter Jon Peterson said the event has been going on for 23 years, and Medford has participated for 11.
Firefighters will hold fundraisers leading up to the event.
Crews will be at Food 4 Less in Medford from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, raising money while firefighters take turns on a Stairmaster. Firefighters will rotate every 15 minutes, taking walks comparable to 60 flights of stairs every time they hop on. Donations will be accepted.
