VIDEO — The Evening Shades laid down an hour-long set of original pop and rock Saturday night at South Stage Cellars to win the first semifinalist round of the annual Rising Stars competition. The competition also raised $1600 to benefit Britt Festivals' music education programs.

If the band — with Mark Anthony on lead vocals and guitar, Matt Tayvis on keys and bass, Stephen Kay on electric and acoustic guitars and Brandom Amador on drums — makes it to the final match in March, it will win an opening slot for a show this summer and Britt and a live show on Jefferson Public Radio.

Up next Saturday, Feb. 8, Not Two Shabby, Charles Guy and Linda Powers and Sage Meadows and High Country will vie for a spot in the finals at South Stage Cellars, 125 S. Third St., Jacksonville.

Votes can be purchased for $2 each. The bands or musicians with the most votes moves to the finals. The finalist will chosen by votes and a panel of judges.
