A Medford woman who allegedly broke in through the window of her estranged husband's home and attacked him with a pocket knife Saturday intended to kill him, police believe.
Maritza Guadalupe Duran-Bencomo, 21, was arraigned in Jackson County Circuit Court Monday on two counts of attempted murder and second-degree assault, court records show. She remains in the Jackson County Jail on $500,000 bail.
Duran-Bencomo allegedly had moved out of the home in the 800 block of Olympic Avenue two weeks ago. Luis Ortega, 23, stayed in the home, according to a release.
There were five people in the home at 6:40 a.m. Saturday when Duran-Bencomo allegedly crawled in through a back window. Police said she attacked Ortega and 27-year-old Brandi Neims with the knife. Both Ortega and Neims received minor stab wounds and lacerations in the attack, but were able to run outside. Police responded to the home after being called, and arrested Duran-Bencomo without incident.
Both Ortega and Neims declined medical treatment.
Court records show Duran-Bencomo has no additional criminal history in Jackson County.
