  • Emily Alvarez scored 22 points and was key for the St. Mary's girls basketball team in the fourth quarter in a nonconference showdown with Cascade Christian on Thursday.
    Alvarez went 6-for-6 from the free throw line in the fourth to help protect Crusaders' lead they earned late in the quarter and went on to a 46-43 win at St. Mary's High School.
    In the third quarter, Lillian Martin kept the Crusaders (16-3) afloat with nine of her 16 points. The Crusaders outscored Cascade Christian 16-12 in the third but trailed entering the second half after Nicole Morse made a lay-in at the second quarter buzzer to give the Challengers (12-10) a 21-20 lead.
    Morse finished with six points, seven rebounds and four steals, while Ali Spani led the Challengers by knocking down five 3-pointers for all 15 of her points — she had three from downtown in the opening quarter. Alaina Thomson added 10 points for Cascade Christian.

    ASHLAND 39, GRANTS PASS 39 — At Ashland, Cody Eisenberg's second-round pin of Aaron Little in the heavyweight bout gave Ashland an impressive tie in the nonleague dual at Mountain Avenue Gym.
    Eisenberg rolled Little from the down position then used a headlock to finish the match in 3:22, the Grizzlies' fourth pin of the day.
    The Grizzlies also got a key pin at 145 by Chris Bowland, who defeated Mason Roddy in 2:22 to begin a string of three consecutive wins by fall for Ashland.
