Moose run past Spartans

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — The Southern Oregon Spartans struck first but could not hang on in a 7-4 loss to the Salt Lake City Moose in Western States Hockey League action on Friday.

Justus Saldeen had two goals and Carl Edstrom added two assists for the Spartans (10-22-1-2), who trailed 6-2 after two periods.

Saldeen's goal 1 minute, 35 seconds into the Northwest Division match put Southern Oregon on the scoreboard first.

Goalkeeper Jiri Ponikelsky made 25 saves against Salt Lake City (24-11-1-1).
