Mary Ann (Conger) Stewart passed away at 3:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at the age of 96. Born Mary Ann Whitsett on August 15, 1917 to Mable J. (Coburn) and Rev. Julian C. Whitsett in Mountain View, Wyo., USA. She attended school in Lakeview and Klamath Falls, graduating high school in Brownsville, Ore. in 1935. She graduated from Southern Oregon Normal School in 1938 and began teaching at the one-room grade school in Warner Valley, Lake County, Ore.
On May 30, 1940 in Ashland, Ore., Mary Ann married Marc H. Conger (1906), her husband of 43 years until his death in 1983. Their two older sons, Robert Marc (1941), and Douglas Lee (1942) were born in Lakeview, Ore., daughter, Judith Ann (1948), and youngest son, Kenneth Ray (1952), were born in Medford, Ore.
The majority of her long and distinguished career was teaching First Grade at Talent Elementary School, while raising their four children in Ashland.
Mary Ann married Victor Stewart May 31, 1986, and they lived at his Stewart Ranch south of Ashland until his death in 1998. She has lived as a widow for 15 years in the Oak Village Senior Community in Talent, Ore. until her passing this week. Two younger brothers, Jack W. and Joseph C. Whitsett, preceded her in death. She is survived by her only sister, Myrtle Jane Zoller, of Medford. Also surviving are her four children; two grandsons, Martin Lee Conger and Bari Rogers; and two granddaughters, Marcie Lynn Austin and Hidi Lynn Tellez. Mary Ann has 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
A memorial service for Mary Ann will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Central Neighborhood (Assembly of God) Church, 4777 S. Pacific Hwy, Talent, OR for her family, many friends, and acquaintances.
