With a flurry of third-period goals, the Southern Oregon Spartans hockey team put its losing skid to rest with a 5-2 victory over the Colorado Eagles on Sunday at The RRRink.
The Spartans (11-25-2-2 Western States Hockey League), who had lost six straight and 12 of their last 13, avoided a three-game sweep with the victory.
The playoff-bound Eagles (21-16-2) of the Mountain Division broke a 1-all tie about five minutes into the third period on Scott Smoot's second goal of the game.
Two minutes later, the Spartans' Carl Edstrom knotted the score back up and with about five minutes to play, Tyler Spencer gave Southern Oregon the lead for good. Edstrom followed with his second goal of the contest and Justus Saldeen added an empty-net goal with just over a minute left to play.
Ben Henry scored a power-play goal for the Spartans in the second period.
