Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon

The youth symphony, conducted by Cynthia Hutton, will showcase Aram Khachaturian’s Violin Concerto with solo violinist Esther Aviana Platt. Platt is YSSO’s 2013 Concerto Competition winner, and she’s a member of the Rogue Valley Symphony and Siskiyou Violins.

The concerts also will include Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4. YSSO’s Youth Orchestra will perform arrangements of works by Tchaikovsky, Reinhold Gliere and Antonin Dvorak. Conductor Faina Podolnaya will lead Youth Strings in arrangements of works by G.F. Handel, Franz Schubert and Ludwig van Beethoven.

Concerts are at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, at Parkway Christian Center, 229 N.E. Beacon Drive, Grants Pass; 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at the Craterian Theater, 23 S. Central Ave., Medford; and 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, in the Music Recital Hall on the Southern Oregon University campus, 1250 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland. Tickets cost $10, $5 for students, and can be purchased at Paddington Station in Ashland, Larry’s Music in Medford or Oregon Books in Grants Pass. Tickets to the Craterian show can be purchased at the theater’s box office at 16 S. Bartlett St.
