A Craigslist scam involving a fake job posting, large advance payments and a request for money transfer is circulating through the Rogue Valley, police said.
A local bank reported about eight of its account holders were targeted by the scam and four fell victim, a Medford Police Department news release said.
In the scam, victims respond to a job posting, typically for child care work, are accepted for the position and sent an advance payment for more than their salary, the news release said.
The scammers then request that the victim keep a portion of the check and electronically transfer the rest to another person involved in the scam, the release said.
The checks are fake and the victims lose any money they send to repay the overpaid salary amount, the release said.
