  • Leland Ivor Harter, 95, was born May 17, 1918 in New Orleans, La. to Earl P. and Lela Blanche (Emery) Harter. He grew up in the Dust Bowl days in Texas. Leland went to be with the Lord Thursday, February 27, 2014.
    He served in the Army Air Force in World War II as a Squadron Commander in the South Pacific, flying a B-52. Leland married Frances Walker on May 1, 1942. They were married for 72 years. He graduated from Oregon State University and moved to Jacksonville, Ore. in 1950 to teach wood shop at the Jacksonville High School until 1959. He then taught at McLoughlin until 1977. Leland and Frances moved to Portland, Ore. to serve in the Child Evangelism Fellowship. They moved back to Jacksonville in 1985.
    Leland is survived by wife, Faye; son, David; and grandson; Eric (who remain in the area) ; brother, Dale Harter; and sister, Mary Lou Reynolds, both of Texas.
    A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2014 at Memory Gardens Memorial Park, 1395 Arnold Lane, Medford, OR. 541-773-7338. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Ruch Community Bible Church, 190 Upper Applegate Road, Ruch, Ore. Pastor Ron McKay will officiate. Memorial contributions can be made in Leland's name to Child Evangelism Fellowship, 334 Effie Street, Medford, OR 97504.
