  • Eight senior girls from Jackson County high schools have been nominated by their schools to compete for the title of Pear Blossom Festival queen.
    The queen will reign over the 61st annual Pear Blossom Festival in Medford on the weekend of April 12 and be featured in the annual Pear Blossom Parade.
    The 24th Annual Senior Royalty Scholarship Pageant will be held at 7 p.m., Saturday, March 29 in the North Medford High school auditorium.
    The contestants are Tatiana Ramos-Gallardo of Ashland High School; Tyler Grahame of North Medford High; Shawntell Michalke of South Medford High; Cora Tree of Eagle Point High, Megan Killam of Cascade Christian High, Kaylee Biando of Prospect High, Teddy Bradshaw of Crater High, Kayla Bradley of Phoenix High.
    The candidates will be judged on school leadership skills, academic achievement, community involvement, an interview with the judges, writing and presenting an essay and answering impromptu questions on stage.
    Each princess earns a $500 college scholarship. The winner become queen and receives a $2,000 college scholarship sponsored by Kogap Enterprises.
    Doors for the March 29 pageant will open at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $8 for adults, $6 for students and free for those younger than 6.
    The Pear Blossom Junior Royalty Court will be selected earlier that day.
