The senior won the Class 5A state championship at 160 pounds with a stunning pin in only 1 minute, 47 seconds over No. 4 seed Kyle Hammond of Cleveland. Hoeptner (36-7) had three pins in four matches.
Mason Montgomery, Ashland wrestling
The senior ended the season 29-0 by winning state for the Grizzlies, taking the 220-pound Class 5A division with a 3-1 decision over West Albany’s Steely Smith. It was Ashland’s first title since 1973 and third total.
Izzy Rubio, Phoenix wrestling
The senior returned the Pirates to the top of the medals podium after a one-year absence by winning the Class 4A state crown at 170 pounds with a 10-2 major decision over Crook County’s Clark Woodward. Rubio was (34-5).
Trent Wilson, North Medford wrestling
The 195-pound junior won the first state championship for North Medford since the school was formed in 1986 with a 7-4 decision over West Linn’s Cameron Schmitz. Wilson ended the season 28-5.
