  • On March 1, 2014, Johanna K. Fabianek passed away. She was born April 5, 1916 in Freeman, S.D. to Fred and Margaret Kost. Johanna was the third of eight children.
With the end of the war and her first marriage, this courageous lady packed up her four children, Donald Sarutzki, Darla Kim, Janice Saum, and Wanda Jones and headed for Oregon to start a new life. They found their new home in the small town of Malin. She worked at the town's Food Market and Retail Store. This is where she meet the love of her life, Joe. They married in 1945. This marriage brought Joe's son Bob Fabianek into the family.
Johanna and Joe worked side by side raising their five children. They bought what was once an old school and land and as time went on this couple built a new home together. The ups and downs of this process brought lasting understanding, a good sense of humor, companionship, and a greater love.
In 1998 Johanna and Joe moved to Medford, Ore. where they spent the last years of their life. Johanna was always involved with craft projects that she loved to share with family and friends. Cooking was also a specialty. Her chili, cinnamon rolls, and Kolachi were prize winners.
Johanna leaves behind one brother, five children, eight grandchildren, and a number of great-grandchildren, nephews, and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, six siblings, and her husband, Joe.
We thank you Mom for being such a wonderful role model, you taught us to be self-reliant, hard working and charitable to others. God Bless.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 8, 2014 at the Malin Cemetery. Arrangements in care of Abbey Funeral, Medford.
