Lee was born in Chicago, Ill. but left at an early age and spent many years in the San Fernando Valley and Thousand Oaks areas of California. He served in the United States Army from 1961 to 1963 stationed in Nuremberg, Germany. During his career he worked for Rocketdyne in Santa Susana, Calif. and for 22 years he was a machinist and Sr. Engineer for Hughes Research Labs in Malibu, Calif. After leaving Hughes he opened his own business, Lee's Home Repair and Maintenance.
In 1996 he and his wife, Marilyn, found Jacksonville and moved to Oregon. For 12 years they were owner/innkeepers of Jacksonville's Historic Orth House B&B. Even while enjoying the B&B, Lee continued his home repair and maintenance. He leaves his legacy in Jacksonville: the flower boxes on California Street, the Boosters benches around town, buildings on the Britt grounds, the Sextons House at the Cemetery, and there are many homes and shops that have been repaired/restored by Lee's Home Repair." He loved Jacksonville and was a member of Boosters, Britt Board of Directors, and the Rogue Valley A's Model A Club.
In addition to his wife, Marilyn, he leaves his children, Andy and Suzan Lewis, Lisa Lewis, and Sheri Booth; step-children, Ken and Linda Smith, Mark Smith, Terri Staab, and Stephanie Smith; nine grandchildren, Hannah, Alexis, Cris, Lorien, Mason, Nick, Melissa, Julia, Claire, and Barrett; and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Esther Mayer and Pat Popovich.
He was loved by so many and will be missed so very much.
Lee's celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at the First Presbyterian Church of Jacksonville, 425 Middle St. Reception/party will follow the service. A private burial will be held separately.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Crater Scholarship Foundation, P.O. Box 5172, Central Point, Or., 97502 or the Model A Ford Foundation, Inc., Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 95151, Nonantum, MA 02495
