  • GENEVA, Ohio — As expected, the Southern Oregon University men's distance medley relay team will get the opportunity to defend its national title.
    That quartet of Raiders advanced to the final by winning its eight-team heat in the preliminary round of the NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships on Thursday at the SPIRE Institute. Zach Boyd-Helm, Jonz Olander, Kevin Jorgensen and Eric Avila ran the 4,000-meter race in 9:59.33, slipping past Concordia (Ore.) by two-tenths of a second.
    SOU's 4x400-meter women's relay team was sixth in its preliminary heat, 17th of 23 teams overall and will be left out of Saturday's final. Tierra Barrett, Rachele Bedsole, Aspen Abbott and Amelia Maguin finished in 3:56.95, 3.41 seconds behind the eighth and final qualifier.
