  • Edyth Ann (Viar) Ballard, 69, passed away February 8, 2014 after bravely battling a combination of illnesses, surrounded by family and friends. She was born August 25, 1944 in Medford, Ore. to Elmo and Elise Viar (Hull) of Central Point, Ore.
Edyth (known by most as Edye) grew up in Central Point, Ore. attending Central Point schools and graduated from Crater High School in June of 1962. After college she worked for Rogue Valley Hospital as a dietitian for a number of years. In 1975, Edye went to work for Ray Heysell, Attorney in Medford, Ore. During the next 33 years she worked as his secretary and retired in 2008 as a paralegal.
Edye gave birth to a daughter in 1965, which she gave up for adoption, and in 1996 her daughter, Nancy Wallis, was able to locate Edye and reconnect after all those years. In 1966 Edye married Bill Crowell of Medford, Ore. and the following year on July 24, 1967, she gave birth to a son, Scott Allan Crowell. The marriage did not last and on February 26, 1969 Edye married Edward Michael (Mike) Ballard in Reno, Nev. On July 23, 1970 she gave birth to her second son, Curtis Lee Ballard.
For years Edye enjoyed helping and selling photographs that her husband took of weddings, Southern Oregon Barrel Racing Assoc., Yreka Speedway, Southern Oregon Speedway, and numerous special events. Edye also enjoyed watching Nascar, races, especially number 24, Jeff Gordon. Edye enjoyed pro football (GO RAIDERS) and college football (GO OREGON DUCKS), and especially enjoyed her three little dogs. She was particularly happy in the company of her family and friends.
During her spare time she began to make jewelry. She loved to read paperback books and did crossword puzzles. In the last five years Edye enjoyed having her friend, Donna, take her shopping at secondhand stores, and a Pawn Shop once, for those great buys.
Edye was a generous and loving person that always had time and an ear for anyone. Edye was an outstanding person, with all the liveliness in her anyone could ask for, and she will be greatly missed.
Edye was preceded in death by her parents, Elmo and Elise, and her husband, Mike Ballard. She is survived by a brother, Bruce Viar of Central Point, Ore.; daughter, Nancy of
Windsor, Calif.; and sons Scott of Sacramento, Calif. and Curt of Central Point, Ore.; and three grandsons and two granddaughters.
A celebration of her life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Medford Friends Church, located at 525 DeBarr Avenue, Medford.
