  • Two Southern Oregon men died in separate motorcycle crashes Saturday.
A Medford man died on North Phoenix Road when his bike struck the curb just south of the Hillcrest Road intersection and bucked him off.
Medford police say Victor Sutton, 50, of Medford, was driving his 2004 Harley-Davidson south on North Phoenix Road close to noon when the crash occurred. His motorcycle struck the right curb where the road begins to veer left. Sutton was thrown from his vehicle. He was wearing an open face helmet and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency crews.
Medford Fire-Rescue, Mercy Flights and Medford police responded to the scene. The crash closed the Hillcrest-North Phoenix intersection to other drivers for about four hours, police said.
A Grants Pass man died about 5:30 p.m. Saturday when he lost control of his 2008 Suzuki motorcycle while negotiating a righthand curve on Highway 199. He crossed into the oncoming travel lane, sideswiping a car and slamming into a tree stump.
James William Osborne, 47, was pronounced dead at the scene by responders.
Oregon State Police reported Osborne had been driving north on the highway near milepost 25 when he tried to make the curve at Sauers Flat. He then lost control of his motorcycle before heading off the west shoulder and hitting the tree stump.
Witnesses performed CPR until medical responders arrived on scene. The driver of the sideswiped car was not injured.
The case remains under investigation, but excessive speed is being considered as the cause, police said.
