  • An early-morning traffic stop near Central Point netted 1.6 pounds of heroin and the arrest of two California men over the weekend, Oregon State Police reported Thursday.
OSP said in a news release that a trooper pulled over a 2011 Honda Accord at 12:05 a.m. Saturday near milepost 33 on Interstate 5. The driver allegedly had been speeding. Police investigated the vehicle with help from a drug-sniffing dog and found the heroin in the trunk. The drugs have an estimated value of $55,000, police said.
Driver Jose Nunez Jimenez, 22, of Inglewood, Calif., and 51-year-old passenger Antonio Nunez Salcido, of Norwalk, Calif., were arrested on charges of possession and distribution of heroin. They are no longer listed in the Jackson County Jail.
