  • Dylan Wu shot a 2-over-par 74 to lead St. Mary's to victory in a boys district golf match at Centennial Golf Club Thursday.
    The Crusaders, three-time defending Class 3A state champions, had a 306 team team total, getting 77s from Wu's twin brothers, Jeremy and Josh, and a 78 from Tom Thorndike.
    Cascade Christian, led by Max Davis' 76, was second at 324.
    Matt Hedges of Ashland was medalist with a 72.
    Only four of the eight schools fielded complete teams.

    SPINGFIELD ICEBREAKER — At Springfield, junior Wyatt Thompson-Siporen won the discus and long jump to pace Ashland at the season-opening meet for both teams.
    Thompson-Siporen launched the discus 139 feet, 4 inches and long jumped 20-21/4..
    Also for the Ashland boys, Michael Pruitt placed first and Shashi Penn second in the 100 meters, Danial White won the 200 and all three, along with Mason Dow, teamed up to prevail in the 4x100 relay.
    On the girls side, Ashland junior Kelsey McKelvey threw the javelin 117-2 to win by more than 27 feet.
