  • Shirley Mae Kohlhoff was born March 30, 1936 to Forest and Dorothy Gordon and passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at home March 13, 2014.
    Shirley was born in Fresno, Calif. and moved to Hawthorne, Calif. in 1941. Shirley graduated from Hawthorne High School in 1954. Following her graduation Shirley worked for Bank of America and Northrop. Shirley met and fell in love with Ernie Kohlhoff. They later married and had two children, Allen and Karla.
    Ernie and Shirley, wanting a calmer place to raise their children, moved to Jacksonville, Ore. in 1963. Three years later Shirley's parents and siblings also moved to Oregon to be closer to them. Ernie and Shirley purchased the Old English Fish and Chips Restaurant and Pub in downtown Medford in 1971, running the establishment with their family members until they sold it in 1981.
    Shirley was a very talented artist in many forms. She loved to paint, sew, and crochet. Shirley enjoyed reading books and began writing short stories in her last years. Shirley was fascinated by ancestry and spent a lot of time researching her and other's family histories. Ernie and Shirley were avid lovers of the outdoors and would frequently go camping in their RV. Following Ernie's death in 2003, Shirley joined a crafters club at the Royal Mobile Estates where she made various items for children and hospital patients. Shirley had lived in Jacksonville since moving to Oregon, until October of 2013 when she moved to Central Point to be with her daughter.
    Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Ernie; her parents, Forest and Dorothy; her brother, Neal Gordon; and niece, Susan Ivey. She is survived by her sister, Margaret Moser; her children, Allen Kohlhoff and Karla Ratty; her grandchildren, Johanna (Kevin) Paulsen and Jocelyn (Jeremy) Creasy; four great-grandchildren; and 11 nieces and nephews.
    A Celebration of Shirley's Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 30, 2014 in the Koiania Building at Eastwood Baptist Church, located at 675 N. Keene Way Drive,
    Medford, OR.
