RECAP: Colton Westfall, Isaiah Luzny and Jordan Ragan combine on a six-inning no-hitter for North Medford in the nonconference win.

UP NEXT: Saturday, North Valley at Henley; Wednesday, Mountain View at North Medford.
  • Three North Medford pitchers combined for a no-hit shutout as the Class 6A Black Tornado cruised by 4A North Valley, 10-0 in six innings, at North Medford High on Wednesday.
Starter Colton Westfall threw two innings and struck out three to pick up the victory and improve to 3-1, while Jordan Ragan (three strikeouts) and Isaiah Luzny (four strikeouts) also pitched a pair of innings. Only one walk was issued between the three of them.
"What we wanted to do was get our pitchers some work and be able to continue establishing some rhythm and timing on the mound," North Medford head coach Brett Wolfe said.
Josh Berman went 4-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs, Troy Fowler 2-for-3 and Jared Evans 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs for North (8-1), which finished with 11 hits.
Fowler's RBI single with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning brought home Berman and ended things early.
North erupted for five runs in the first inning, including a two-out RBI single by Evans to put the Tornado on the scoreboard.
"Anytime you get a two-out base hit after your Nos. 3 and 4 guys go down with a runner in scoring position, it helps set momentum in the game," Wolfe said.
Berman followed that up with a two-run single, then Brett Pearson hit a two-run single.
North tacked on four more runs in the second.
The Black Tornado's pitching trio was stingy all day long.
North Valley's Kyler Smith led off the top of the first with a walk and reached second on a fielder's choice before Westfall fanned two of the next three batters to end the inning.
Kevin Olmstead got on base on an error in the fourth but was erased on a 6-4-3 double play by Micah Brown, Ryan Sutton and David Crofton.
Other than that, the Knights (3-2) were kept off the bases.
North Medford has won five straight.
