    FIRST FRIDAY ARTWALK: The monthly art walk in Ashland's downtown and Railroad District runs from 5 to 8 p.m. Art walk maps are available at local galleries and the Ashland Chamber of Commerce. Visitors will find opportunities to meet artists, watch art demonstrations, hear live music and enjoy refreshments at some of the galleries. Check the listings in Tempo for details about which galleries will be open during the event.

    TAYLOR 2: An award-winning choreographer and pioneer of modern dance, Paul Taylor's dance troupe will perform at 7:30 p.m. at the Craterian Theater, 23 S. Central Ave., Medford. Taylor's troupe wordlessly translates and illuminates war, spirituality, sexuality, moralism and mortality and has also created romantic, astonishingly athletic and downright funny dances.     EIGHTH BLACKBIRD: This Chicago-based string ensemble combines flute, clarinet, violin, viola, cello, piano and percussion with the energy of a rock band. The group will perform at 7:30 p.m. in the Music Recital Hall on the Southern Oregon University campus, 1250 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland. An open rehearsal will be held from 12:30 to 2 p.m. in the Music Recital Hall, and a free percussion class will be offered from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. in Room 220 of the Music Building.
