  • KOBI-TV has received a National Association of Broadcasters Service to America/Service to Children award for a program designed to support local school activities.
The Youth Education Success program provides funds contributed by local businesses to support programs such as music, extra-curricular clubs and sports that might otherwise be lost to budget cuts.
Participating businesses donate a percentage of their earnings from one day each month to the program, and educators can apply for grants from the collected funds.
The program has so far awarded $65,000 in grants to schools in Southern Oregon and Northern California.
KOBI also received the NAB Service to America Award in 2009 for its sponsorship of the Southern Oregon Meth Project.
