Marjorie Edens of Jacksonville, Ore. departed this earthly life Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Providence Medical Center. Marjorie Anne was born in Martinsburg, West Virginia October 16, 1940 to Fred William and Clorine "Renie" Edens. Marjorie graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1958 and attended Lewis and Clark College.
Marjorie loved history and devoted her life to learning, teaching, sharing, and preserving the history of Jacksonville, the Rogue Valley, and Southern Oregon. She was a well respected and admired historian who had a real ability to quickly recall names and stories.
Marjorie worked with the Southern Oregon Historical Society for many years. She was a long term member of the Jacksonville Boosters Club, serving on its Board, and more recently, serving as a Director on the Boosters Foundation Board. Marjorie's legacy will be the continued restoration and care of the lower Peter Britt Gardens in Jacksonville, which was a favorite and meaningful project for her. She was a volunteer and supporter of the Friends of Jacksonville's Historic Cemetery and served on the Board of the Jacksonville Friends of the Library. A master gardener, Marjorie was a member of the Applegate Garden Club.
Her friends would like to thank the staff of the Providence Medical Center in Medford for the care given, and the kindness and compassion that was shown to Marjorie.
At Marjorie's request there will be no service. A celebration of her life and contributions will be held at a later date.
Jacksonville and its residents were Marjorie's extended family and we thank her for all of her contributions to the community. We grieve her passing and will cherish our memories of time spent with her.
