South boys edge North in cross-town tennis match

The South Medford boys tennis team swept through the singles portion of its match with rival North Medford en route to a 5-3 victory on Tuesday at North Medford High.

John Killum, Johnny Phelps, Kai Elam and Noah Terando each picked up singles victories for the Panthers.

In doubles, North (1-3) picked up wins from the duos of Logan West and Kyle Campbell, Kellin Pedersen and Daniel Pedersen and Nick White and Isaiah Williams.

ASHLAND 6, GRANTS PASS 2 — At Ashland, Ashland's No. 1 single Grant Kahn blanked Nico Blanco, 6-0, 6-0, and the Grizzlies' top pairing of Cannon Dukes and Nate Baize beat Tucker Daniel and Tyler Broyles, 6-1, 6-2.

Ashland, which won all its doubles matches, improved to 3-0-1.

SOUTH MEDFORD 5, NORTH MEDFORD 3 — South Medford sophomore Kelsey Bartlett triumphed in No. 1 singles to remain undefeated in conference with a 3-0 record in the District 1 match at South Medford High School.

The Panthers (3-1, 2-1 Dist. 1) also won a three-set match in No. 1 doubles with sophomore Abi Borg and freshman Alex Moore playing together for the first time.

Track and Field

GP SWEEPS EAGLES — At Eagle Point, Grants Pass swept the nonleague meet, with the boys winning 92-53 and the girls winning 119-22.

Kevin VanDyke paced the Eagle Point boys with wins in the 1,500 meters (4:24.7) and 3,000 (9:57.4), while Tyler Wanamaker won the 300 hurdles (43.5) and equaled teammate Dominic Patterson in the pole vault at 11-6 to lead the pack.

Drake Brennan scored wins in the shot put and discus for GP, while teammate Zac Hannan edged out EP's Ryan Coble in an impressive dual in the 100 that saw each post 10.8 times. Hannan also won the 110 hurdles (15.6).

Eagle Point's lone wins in the girls dual came from Brittney Miller (200), Hannah McCoy (100 hurdles) and Marinda Stanton (triple jump). GP's Kristina Clark swept the throws by winning the shot put, discus and javelin.
