  • Bernice T. Struhs of Ashland, Ore. passed peacefully April 9, 2014 at 90 years old. She was born in 1924 to Bus and Ida Theurer in St. Louis, Mo. and was the older sister to Jane.
After marrying John Staicoff, a G.I. in 1941, her adventures took her from Samoa to a doughnut shop in Santa Monica, Calif. to Moscow and everywhere in between, with trinkets and stories to match. But her real love was her family and after retirement she moved to Oregon to be closer to them.
The beauty of Ashland put her at peace and she spent many happy days at home with her dog, Holly. Bernice had a full-size sass and spirit in her pint-sized body and was loved by many, though she never neglected to tell people to remove their shoes before coming inside.
She was preceded on her journey by her parents, sister, and beloved son, Kurt. She is survived by her son, David; three grandchildren, Kosta, Amber, and Hannah; and three nieces, Diane, Carol, and Linda; as well as the Torres family whom she loved dearly.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 19, 2014 at Simple Faith Fellowship, 1033 Tolman Creek Rd., Ashland, OR 97520.
