  • The 2014 South Medford Jazz Celebration will kick off at 6 p.m. today at the South Medford High School Theatre, 1551 Cunningham Ave., Medford.
The South Medford High School Jazz Band and the Southern Oregon All Star Big Band will be featured, with saxophonist Greg Yasinitsky and trumpet player John Gronberg joining the Ed Dunsavage Trio as guest performers.
The bands will be directed by Martin Behnke.
Tickets cost $10 and are available at Larry's Music and Tom's Guitars in Medford, South Medford High School and at the door. All proceeds will benefit music in the schools.
Yasinitsky is Regents Professor of Music and director of the School of Music at Washington State University and has an international reputation as a composer, arranger and saxophonist.
John Gronberg is the trumpet instructor and directs the Big Horn Jazz Band at Umpqua Community College. He has played in orchestras in Nevada with headliners such as Tony Bennett and Sammy Davis Jr., and has spent years touring with Broadway musicals in North America, South America and Europe.
The Ed Dunsavage Trio, featuring Joe Cohoon and Gary "Chicken" Hirsh, has been a mainstay in the Southern Oregon jazz scene for nearly 20 years.
The event is sponsored by Siskiyou Music Project, The Southern Oregon Music Festival (formerly the Medford Jazz Festival) and South Medford High School.
