Joseph Lars Giroux, 85, passed away in Medford, Ore. April 18, 2014. Joe was born November 15, 1928, in Ovid, Idaho to Dr. Louis Giroux and Jennie (Nielsen) Giroux. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and served overseas in England. In 1949 he married his first wife, Beverly Beachamp, with whom he had two children. After Beverly passed away Joe wed Ruth Snyder in 1981 in Normal, Illinois. In 1988, Joe and his wife, Ruth, moved to Medford, Oregon.
Joe worked for State Farm Insurance for over 39 years. When State Farm Mutual Auto Insurance opened the Northwest Regional Office in Salem, Ore. in 1957, Joe was one of the employees relocated from Berkley, Calif. to help open the new office and he was the superintendent of the data processing department. In 1968 he was the first person appointed as a regional office data processing consultant. His many years of data processing experience enabled him to transfer to State Farm's corporate headquarters in Bloomington, Illinois. He continued his career in data processing and, at the time of his early retirement, was a director and was responsible for the home office data center.
Joe was an avid golfer all his life and a member of the U.S. Golf Association. He was also a 32 Mason and was with the Bloomington, Ill. Masonic Lodge No. 0043 for over 37 years.
Joe is survived by his wife, Ruth, and his children, Ray Louis Giroux of Bloomington/Normal, Illinois, and Natalie Ann
Giroux of Peoria, Illinois. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Darbie Rae Giroux, Carrie Nielson (Dave), Jenny Giroux, Joseph Allen Giroux (Samantha), Joshua William
Giroux (Meghan), and Ray Louis Giroux Jr. (Rachel); ten great-grandchildren; as well as nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife.
At Joe's request, no memorial services will be held. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, the Alzheimer's Association, or a charity of the donor's choice.
Joe was a very special man who was loved by many and respected by all.
