Ashland band Borschtoisie — singer and guitarist Nic Temple, guitarist Brian Carpenter, bassist Jesse Sharpe and drummer Conor Quinn — play a mix of rock and funk but wouldn't call its music either style.

"I think we're still in that formative stage where we don't know quite what our sound is," Temple says. "We're getting closer though."

The band is building its repertoire of original songs and plans to release a demo CD soon.

"We have four songs recorded, and two of them are professionally mixed," Temple says. "We'd really like to release those with a couple songs recorded live or during a rehearsal."

Borschtoisie will play at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at Milagro's Fresh Mexican, 1465 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland. The cover is free.
