  • SPOKANE, Wash. — Former Cascade Christian tennis player Taylor Pena, a sophomore on the Whitworth University women's team, has been named to the 2014 all-Northwest Conference team, which was released Friday.
Pena was chosen for the first team in a vote of the league's coaches. It's the first time she's received all-NWC recognition.
Pena split time between the Nos. 1 and 2 singles for the Pirates. She has a 9-8 singles record, including 9-3 against NWC opponents.
Pena also played No. 1 doubles with Saryn Mooney, with whom she flip-flopped at the top singles spots and who made the first team. The tandem is 11-6 overall as Whitworth's top team, including 8-4 in the NWC.
At Cascade Christian, Pena teamed with Eric Morse and played doubles in the Class 3A state tournament, winning the consolation title in 2012.
