  • People who have hazardous waste piling up in their garages can dispose of it at an event called Toss Your Toxins, scheduled from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, May 2-3, at the Rogue Disposal and Recycling transfer station, 8001 Table Rock Road.
The cost to drop off material is $5 for the first cubic yard of hazardous material, equal to six 32-gallon trash cans filled to capacity. More than one cubic yard will result in additional charges.
Materials such as cleaning supplies, pesticides, swimming pool chemicals, weed killers, old paint removers, old or toxic wood preservatives, batteries and thermostats containing mercury will be accepted.
Materials that won't be accepted include oil- and latex-based paints, fluorescent light tubes, medical and biological waste, asbestos, propane tanks, anti-freeze, explosives, radioactive materials, ammunition, 55-gallon drums, metal canisters and fire extinguishers.
Businesses that produced less than 220 pounds — or 25 gallons — of hazardous waste per month for each of the past 12 months are invited to participate in the event.
Businesses wanting to participate must download an application from Rogue Disposal's website at www.roguedisposal.com. Call 541-779-4161 for more information.
