David Earl Erion, 83, of Ashland, Ore., passed away April 22, 2014 at the Rogue Regional Medical Center in Medford, Ore. He was born November 28, 1930 to Margaret and Earl Erion in Rome, New York.
David's family moved to Oneida, New York where he spent his childhood. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree at the N.Y. State College of Forestry at Syracuse University. After graduating he served in the Army as a communications specialist.
On January 7, 1956 David married Virginia Sheldrick in Hopewell, New Jersey. David and Ginnie moved to Medford, Ore. in 1956 where David worked for BLM.
David earned a Master's degree and turned to teaching as a profession in 1961. For many years he taught science to junior high school students in the Medford school system.
He loved to be out of doors and spent much time hiking, camping, and bird watching, and was very active in environmental and humanitarian causes. He was a "Hometown Hero" in 2003.
David lived his life as a servant and a "Man of God". He was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church of Medford. He was very involved in church ministries such as Project Warm and The Samaritan outreach.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at Westminster Presbyterian Church.
