  • Helena Nataniah Zajac
    Helena Maria Elizabeth Zajac died April 22, 2014 at Skylark Memory Care in Ashland, Ore. Known by her chosen name, Nataniah, after Russian Jewish defector Natan Sharansky, she was born February 18, 1923 in Gravenhagen, Netherlands. Her parents were Elizabeth Catharine Neyenhuizen and Cornelis C. J. Schaghen.
    Nataniah was an elementary school teacher and married Mieczyslaw Zajac. They emigrated to California and she worked as a bookkeeper. After her husband's death in 1984 she eventually settled in Ashland.
    Nataniah was a member of Temple Emek Shalom and traveled to the Dead Sea in 1990. She was interred beside her husband in Etna, Calif.
    Donations are welcomed in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association.
