  • GRANTS PASS — The Grants Pass softball team used dominant performances by Amy Robinson to prevail in a pair of close Southern Oregon Hybrid contests against South Medford at Grants Pass High on Saturday.
The Cavers won the opener, 4-1, and captured a 2-1 triumph in Game 2.
Robinson, a junior, tossed a pair of four-hitters with 15 strikeouts and no walks in each contest.
In the second game, Halee Rose hit a one-out RBI single and Taylor Thomas scored on a passed ball to give Grants Pass a 2-0 edge in the bottom of the third inning.
South's Sara Gartlan crushed a leadoff solo home run in the top of the fifth, and Brittany Miller and Rachael Moore both singled with one out in the sixth before Robinson recorded a strikeout and induced a flyout to end the threat.
Miller went 2-for-3 with a double for the Panthers (7-8, 2-4 SOH) and Aleah Stevens was 2-for-3 for the Cavers (11-6, 4-2).
Panthers pitcher Pat Moore allowed four hits and four walks and fanned seven.
Danielle Taylor's two-run single plated Thomas and Rose and provided Grants Pass a 3-0 lead in the third inning of the opener.
In the fifth, Bailee Tatum's RBI double down the left-field line for South brought home Hannah Newman and trimmed the deficit to two runs, but the Panthers were held scoreless after that.
Miller was 2-for-3 in Game 1, when South committed four errors. Pat Moore tossed a three-hitter with seven strikeouts and five walks.
