  • CAVE JUNCTION — St. Mary's needed eight innings to pull off a 4-3 victory over Illinois Valley in the opener of a Southern Cascade Hybrid baseball doubleheader, then breezed to an 11-1 win in six innings in Game 2 Monday.
    In the first game, Joe Hammonds' sacrifice fly plated Travis Danielson to give the Crusaders (11-8, 3-2 SCH) their eventual winning run in the top of the eighth. Spencer McCabe also scored on a wild pitch to break the 2-all tie.
    In the bottom of the frame, Zach Welch cut the lead to 4-3 on a single that scored Andrew Sherier.
    Sam Hough helped the Crusaders force extra innings when he tripled in Ty Mulholland in the top of the seventh to knot the score at 2-all.
    In Game 2, which lasted six innings, Mulholland's two-run double in the third boosted the Crusaders' lead to 7-0. Hammonds also plated two runs with a double in the first.
    Mulholland went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and McCabe was 2-for-3 with three runs and a pair of RBIs.
    Sophomore left-hander Tanner Smith earned his first victory on the year, giving up one earned run in four innings on three hits and two walks. He struck out four.
    Lander Nordal, who had a pair of triples in the opener, went 2-for-3 with a triple and drove in the nightcap's only run for the Cougars (8-6, 0-3).

    EAGLE POINT 25, ASHLAND 0, 5 inn. — At Ashland, Teanna Gonsalves went 3-for-6 with five RBIs and four runs and earned the pitching win as Eagle Point won the Class 5A Southern Oregon Hybrid game.
    Gonsalves surrendered three hits in three shutout innings.
    Megan Ayres went 3-for-5 with four RBIs and crossed home plate twice for the Eagles (7-7, 1-0 SD4), who scored 11 runs in the third inning.
    The Eagles received five runs and two RBIs on a 3-for-4 effort from Paige Leeper and Kylene Briggs finished 2-for-5 with four RBIs.

    Boys Golf
    ALL-SOH TOURNAMENT — At Roseburg, Grants Pass' Robert Galli was medalist with a 3-over-par 75 as the Cavemen tied Sheldon for first place at Roseburg Country Club.
    Grants Pass and Sheldon each scored 325, while North Medford was third at 338, two strokes up on South Medford.
    Daniel Schuler scored an 81 for the Black Tornado, and Logan Artner paced the Panthers with a 79 for fifth place among individuals.
