  • EAGLE POINT — Teanna Gonsalves had already proven to be a big-moment player prior to the Eagle Point softball team's doubleheader with Mazama on Saturday when the sophomore rose to the occasion not just once, but twice.
After Gonsalves' two-run double paved the way for Kaya Hoag's game-winning hit in the opener, Gonsalves had a walk-off hit of her own in the nightcap as the Eagles swept the Vikings with a pair of 5-4 victories at Eagle Point High School.
After Paige Leeper led off the seventh inning of Game 2 with a single, Gonsalves was given instructions to advance Leeper to second base with a bunt. But after Gonsalves got ahead in the count 0-2, Marksman momentarily abandoned his small-ball strategy to let the Eagles' leading hitter take a swing.
Gonsalves obliged by driving the next pitch over the left fielder's head and into the fence. That double plated Leeper to seal the win.
Gonsalves finished 3-for-4 and pitched for the win to improve to 7-5. Leeper was 2-for-4.
The Vikings (9-9) received a game-tying RBI single from Lynzee Wortman in the top of the seventh. She finished 4-for-4 in the contest.
In the opener, the Eagles rallied with three runs in the bottom of the seventh jump-started by Gonsalves, whose two-run triple knotted the score at 4-all. Hoag polished off the rally with a single that brought home Gonsalves.
Hoag finished 3-for-3 with three RBIs while Gonsalves and Leeper both went 2-for-4.
