  • ASHLAND — Southern Oregon University's Kevin Jorgensen and former Crater standout Holly Haga have received the weekly praise of the Cascade Conference, the league office announced Monday.
Jorgensen, a junior from Yreka, Calif., is the men's track athlete of the week. He placed third of 26 in the 1,500-meter race Friday at the Oregon State High Performance meet in Corvallis in a time of 3 minutes, 48.29 seconds. It was a four-second improvement on the NAIA 'A' standard qualifying time he already had and ranks sixth on the NAIA performance list.
The next day, at the Pacific Twilight, Jorgensen claimed second of 61 entrants in the 800-meter race, finishing in 1:53.83. His best time of the season in that event, 1:52.14, is ninth in the NAIA.
Haga, a senior from Central Point, is the women's field athlete of the week after she threw the discus 143 feet, 6 inches Saturday in her first attempt at the Pacific Twilight, making her a winner in a field of 27. The throw was worthy of an 'A' mark, though her best this season (150-11) is eighth on the NAIA performance list and second in the conference.
The outings were the last of the regular season for the Raiders, who will be at the CCC Championships on Friday and Saturday in Nampa, Idaho.

GOLF FUNDRAISER A SUCCESS — The sixth-annual Raider Red Zone Golf Shootout, sponsored by RedZone Sports Bar and Grill, turned out a record number of golfers and a record amount of money Saturday at Eagle Point Golf Course.
The tournament had 170 golfers and brought in over $34,000 to the Southern Oregon University football program.
The amount raised eclipsed the previous record by almost $10,000.
Included in the total was almost $10,000 in sponsorship, led by Ashland's RedZone Sports Bar and Grill, the title sponsor of this year's event.
The annual Red Zone Golf Shootout is held the first Saturday of May every year, following the annual Spring Game that Friday.
