  • A Grants Pass woman suspected of causing a car crash that killed two people last month near Gold Hill was arrested on manslaughter and driving under the influence of intoxicants charges Tuesday when she was released from the hospital.
Lynda Mae Taylor, 32, of Grants Pass, was being held in the Jackson County Jail Wednesday on two charges of first-degree manslaughter, DUII and reckless driving. Her bail was set at more than $2 million, according to jail records.
Taylor, who wears a neck brace in her mugshot, is still recovering from the April 2 car crash in the 3600 block of North River Road near Gold Hill. At about 1:15 p.m., Taylor was driving a 2000 Kia Spectra and lost control when she rounded a bend on North River Road. Police allege she was driving too fast to make the curve and her car slid sideways into a 2000 Buick Park Avenue.
Taylor's passenger, 40-year-old resident Joe David Campos of White City, died at the scene. The Buick's driver, 80-year-old Jerry Vernon Barrett of Medford, was transported to Providence Medford Medical Center, where he died about nine hours later. Taylor was taken to Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center and initially admitted in critical condition.
North River Road was shut down for several hours during the initial investigation. The Jackson County Sheriff's Department, Medford police and Oregon State Police all responded to the scene, along with emergency medical personnel.
Court records show Taylor was convicted of DUII in Jackson County in a 2007 case.
The case will be presented to a grand jury May 8, the sheriff's department reported.
