  • Raymond Larry Bernard was born May 31, 1928 in St. Martinville, Louisianna to Wade and Luvenia Bernard. Upon graduation from St. Martin High School he then joined the U.S. Marine Corps where he served on active duty for 30 years, retiring as Chief Warrant Officer-4. He served in both the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts. His last major assigment was as Station Weapons Officer at the Marine Corps Air Station in El Toro, Calif. He retired in 1976. He resided in Medford, Ore. until his passing on March 26, 2014.
    Larry was well known regionally as a professional entertainer, trombonist, and leader of Journey's End Jazz band. He founded the Medford Jazz Jubilee in 1989, which continues annually.
    He is survived by his wife, Elaine; four children, Lisa Chappell of Martinez, Calif., Paul Bernard of Medford, Ore., Wade Bernard of Tigard, Ore., and Jon Bernard of Eugene, Ore.; and seven grand-children.
    A memorial with Military Honors will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 15, 2014 at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Please forward any donations to St. Jude Children's Hopsital and Medford Providence Hospice.
