  • Jason Allred will tee off today in his third PGA Tour event this year, the HP Byron Nelson Championship at TPC Four Seasons Resort in Irving, Texas.
The Ashland native earned one of four spots in a qualifying round playoff Tuesday at The Lakes at Castle Hills in Lewisville, Texas. He birdied the 17th and 18th holes for a 69 in inclement weather.
Four spots were available in the 85-player field for entry into the Byron Nelson. Will Stickler's 68 in regulation accounted for one, and four players went to a sudden-death playoff for the other three.
Allred birided the first playoff to secure the second spot. Chris Thompson nabbed the third with birdie on the third hole and Case Cochran grabbed the final spot in dramatic fashion, making a hole-in-one on the fifth hole.
Allred tees off on the 10th hole at 7 a.m. Pacific today with playing partners Troy Merritt and Billy Hurley III.
The same three start Friday's second round on the first hole at noon.
Allred, who has conditional status on the Web.com Tour, previously played in the PGA's Northern Trust Open and the Honda Classic. He placed third in the former, which earned him a spot in the Honda, where he missed the cut by one stroke despite shooting a second-round 66.
He's continued to play well, winning a mini-tour event in Arizona and tying for 11th in his lone Web.com event of the season two weeks ago in the South Georgia Classic. His earnings of more than $11,000 improved his status and will allow more Web.com tournament opportunities.
