Fun with science

Keeping kids engaged and interested in learning is a principal mission of ScienceWorks Hands-On Museum, 1500 E. Main St., Ashland, which boasts exhibits ranging from a bubble room and large-scale kaleidoscope to a series of rotating special exhibits.

The museum is open five days a week during fall, winter and spring, but from Memorial Day through Labor Day the facility is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week. Admission costs $7 for kids ages 2 to 12, $9 for teens and adults and $7 for seniors.

Bowling is an all-ages way to have fun and escape the heat, and the Rogue Valley has two bowling alleys that offer summer specials.

Go Kart Racing

For racing fans, Go Kart Hero is a new venue in Medford for go-kart racing and driving lessons. Located at 550 Airport Road, the facility offers party packages, open driving time and lessons and is open seven days per week. Call 541-494-5278.

Jumping Good Fun

Boasting 20,000 square feet of indoor play space for jumping, tumbling and even basketball and dodge ball, Rogue Air Park is located at 519 Medford Center near Tinseltown. Open for parties and open play ($10 on weekdays and $12 on weekends), facility hours are 2 to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 2 to 11 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday.

Reusable "shuttle socks" are required to play — provided at the facility for an additional $2. Call 541-200-1100.

Kid Time! Discovery Experience

Popular with the younger crowd, Medford's Kid Time! Discovery Experience is a hands-on discovery museum chock full of places to pretend and explore — from a miniature grocery store and bank to a doctor's office and cafe. Kid Time opened last year at 106 N. Central Ave., under partnership with Southern Oregon Historical Society.

A summer kickoff will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, June 16, with a free family concert featuring guitar, banjo, trumpet and fiddle music.
