      Ballet in the Vines
For 26 years, Ballet in the Park was a fixture in Lithia Park. The summer performances ended in 2010, but Diane Hyrst has put a new twist on the concept by staging ballet performances at local wineries. On Monday, Aug. 11, Ballet Diane Hyrst will perform at Dancin' Vineyards in Medford (www.dancinvineyards.com), and on Thursday, Aug. 28 and Thursday, Sept. 18, they'll perform at Bel Fiore Winery in Ashland (www.bellefiorewine.com). Check http://balletdianehyrst.com for times and ticket details, or call the wineries.

      World of Wine

The Southern Oregon World of Wine Festival is a multi-day wine and food festival that will be held from Tuesday, Aug. 19, to Saturday, Aug. 23, at Bigham Knoll, 525 E. E St., in Jacksonville.

The centerpiece of the festival is the wine competition, which attracts 200-plus wines made exclusively from grapes grown in Southern Oregon. The festival also features several wine sensory classes for all levels of wine aficionados, as well as special wine dinners. The festival culminates on Saturday with the Grand Tasting, which give attendees a chance to sample all of the award-winning wines, accompanied by food and music.

    Upper Rogue Wine Trail
The Upper Rogue Wine Trail's six wineries are spread across parts of Gold Hill, Sams Valley, Butte Falls and White City to the north and northwest of Medford.
Lotspeich says the area has the most diverse soils of any other local winery grouping in the region, with winemakers who are knowledgeable and dedicated to their craft.
"You need to do your homework. You need to know what your soils are," Lotspeich says. "I really respect what they do in there."
    Wineries on the trail are:
    • Agate Ridge Vineyard
    • Cliff Creek Cellars
    • Del Rio Vineyards
    • Folin Cellars
    • La Brasseur Vineyard
    • Kriselle Cellars
