  • Four elementary schools in the Medford School District will have new principals next year as the result of changes announced Friday.
Elementary Education Director Julie Evans said the changes will affect Jacksonville, Jefferson, Roosevelt and Washington schools, as follows:
    • Jacksonville: Current Principal Rick Snyder will transfer to the principal's job at Jefferson elementary. Washington Principal Joe Frazier will replace him.
    • Jefferson: Current Principal Tom Sherwood is retiring. Jacksonville Principal Rick Snyder will replace him.
    • Roosevelt: Current Principal Kimberly Miles is resigning to take an elementary principal job with the Gresham-Barlow School District. The Medford district is screening applicants to replace her.
    • Washington: Current Principal Joe Frazier will transfer to the principal's job at Jacksonville. Howard Principal Sallie Johnson will replace him.
Earlier this week, the School Board approved hiring Javier del Rio to replace Johnson at Howard. Del Rio is coordinator of federal programs and school improvement for the Phoenix-Talent School District.
Rick Snyder is in his eighth year with Medford schools, Joe Frazier is in his seventh, and Sallie Johnson is in her ninth. Tom Sherwood is completing his sixth year with the district, and Kimberly Miles is completing her third year.
The principal transfers do not need School Board approval. However, board approval is needed for any new hire.
