  • Much interest is being manifested in the big carnival which the members of the Medford Baseball association are planning to stage from June 16 to 20, inclusive. The Foley & Burk Amusement Company, one of the highly recommended aggregations of California, has been engaged to bring its attractions here during the dates named and a number of interesting events are being arranged for the celebration.
The principal interest in the preparatory work for the carnival is at present centered on the "crabber contest," which opens Monday. The "crab" is a human being peculiar to baseball and has come to be recognized as one of the appurtenances of a well-regulated baseball team. If nobody "crabs" the umpire and players seem to think they have missed something.
It is the intention of the baseball boys to have the public select the person that is, in their opinion, the biggest "baseball crab" in Medford. In order to complicate the matter, the person elected will be allowed to name the queen who will rule over the carnival. Votes will be placed at various places about town and ballot boxes arranged conveniently.
The contest will close on Saturday evening, June 13.
Plans for the carnival embody such features as a county baby show, doll carriage parade and illuminated automobile parade. A huge number of prizes are being arranged for members of the association.
