  • A man was stabbed several times in downtown Medford early Sunday, police reported.
The incident was reported at 2:06 a.m. at the corner of North Front and Fifth streets. Responding officers and emergency personnel found the injured man still at the scene. He had multiple stab wounds, and his assailant had fled.
Mercy Flights transported the victim to a local hospital where he underwent emergency surgery for what police called life-threatening injuries. He is expected to live.
Sgt. Derek Parks of Medford police said the investigation is still in its infancy, but that multiple witnesses have been interviewed. Police said the attack was not random and that the attacker and victim knew each other. No arrests have been made.
More details about the stabbing will likely be released today, police said, including the identities of the suspect and the victim, and how they knew each other.
